Normally instant tea powder contains just the dehydrated flavour, aroma and colour compounds found in tea leaves. But “real” and healthy instant tea is made of green tea extract, so it contains all the natural flavour of the whole green tea leaves from the Camellia sinensis plant. These instant teas contain all polyphenols and catechins found in green tea. This kind of tea is well suited for a quick preparation and it is sometimes called soluble tea as the powder easily dissolves in water (hot or cold).

L-THEANINE-RICH SUNPHENON® GREEN TEA EXTRACT

Epigallocatechin- gallate (EGCg) is the main catechin in green tea and provides many health benefits. High EGCg intake (>800 mg/day), either in pure form or in form of green tea extracts, especially consumed on an empty stomach can cause side effects such as liver inflammation. Therefore, the EFSA regulated EGCg in pure form as approved NOVEL FOOD (Novel Food Regulation EU 2017/2470) and EGCg containing green tea extracts in the EU regulation No. 2022/2340. Both regulations limit the daily dosage of EGCg and requires labelling warnings for EGCg.
At DrinkTec Munich 2022 functional ingredient expert Taiyo presented brand new beverage concepts which addressed current consumer trends, such as energy water, sleep water, sports nutrition, and other functional drinks. The company presented a newcomer to its Sunfiber® portfolio, Sunfiber VC – an all-natural, 100% soluble dietary fiber – as well as its new Sunfiber Water, CherryShield water and other functional waters. It also presented different “always perfect instant teas”, specially prepared for being brewed in Nespresso cups. Other highlights at the Taiyo booth included the SunMatcha extract and Moringa extract with weight loss properties. The managing director, Dr. Stefan Siebrecht, also informed the audience about the effects of Theanine and it´s benefits for your beverages.
