The green Matcha powder coming from the tea plant camellia sinensis, the Chinese tea plant, is today one of the most popular tea types of the world. The long-forgotten and rediscovered plant was brought to Japan 800 years ago by Japanese monks from China to Japan. Japan brought the Matcha tea plant to a renewed glory whereas this tradition was forgotten in China at the same time. The monks in Japan used the tea traditionally to stay focused and calm while meditating. Due to its outstanding ingredients, Matcha has also been used as a remedy and is now regarded as a superfood all over the world. Only if the green tea leaves have been grinded into very small particles, the tea can be called Matcha. Matcha is therefore consumed as powder and while drinking the tea all healthy ingredients are absorbed by the body. In the course of the 16th century, the traditional preparation of the Matcha Tea developed into a ritual procedure, which was regarded as a sign of special education and a cultured lifestyle in Japan. Even today the tea ceremony is considered a kind of ritualized time-out, and although it is consumed mainly in Japan, it became more and more popular in Europe and all over the world.
