When it comes to choosing the right soluble fiber to fortify foods and make a “natural dietary fiber,” there are three key criteria to consider
Sunfiber® is a 100% water soluble fiber derived from the Indian guar bean (Galactomannan). While preserving its high fiber content, the guar gum is enzymatically fragmented into smaller, more soluble and digestible low-viscosity units (partially hydrolyzed guar gum or PHGG). Taiyo with its Sunfiber® is the only manufacturer of this gentle fiber.
More than 150 scientific studies have shown the positive effects of Sunfiber®, such as stimulating the growth of beneficial Bifidobacteria and improving symptoms of constipation and diarrhea.
In this context, it’s good to know that Sunfiber® is the first Monash University Low FODMAP Certified™ fiber. It can even help people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) — who can’t tolerate fermentable single, double and multiple sugars and/or polyvalent sugar alcohols and sugar substitutes — to meet their nutritional needs.
This is also true for the elderly, for whom the consumption of whole grain products is often difficult, but also need to follow a balanced fiber diet. Moreover, Sunfiber® is clinically proven* to lower the glycemic index, improve mineral absorption and increase satiety, which makes it a perfect ingredient to support weight management!

In 2019, an extensive meta-study examined the links between diet-related diseases, fiber intake and fiber quantity and quality. The evaluations suggest a direct relationship between high fiber intake and a decrease in all-cause mortality, cardiovascular-related mortality, coronary heart disease, stroke, type two diabetes and of colorectal cancer. In addition, when comparing fiber intakes, clinical studies show that high levels of consumption significantly lower body weight, lower systolic blood pressure and result in better total cholesterol levels.
Risk reduction was greatest when the daily dietary fiber intake was 25–29 g. Data suggest even better risk reduction with higher fiber consumption than 29 g/day. According to the researchers, the dose-response evidence suggests that the relationships with various non-communicable diseases could be causal.
The series of systematic reviews and a meta-analysis was undertaken by Reynolds et al. from the University of Otago, New Zealand. More information can be found here [http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/S0140-6736(18)31809-9].
