Cranberries have long been cherished for their nutritional and medicinal properties. Dating back to the 17th century, cranberries were used to relieve stomach ailments, liver problems and bowel disorders. Today, cranberry products are most frequently used to help the body manage symptoms of Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).
Cranberries contain proanthocyanidins (PACs) that can prevent the adhesion of certain of bacteria, including E. coli, associated with urinary tract infections, to the urinary tract wall. The anti-adhesion properties of cranberry may also inhibit the bacteria associated with gum disease and stomach ulcers. But as PACs have to be devided into soluble and insoluble PACs, it has to be mentioned that only the soluble PACs do have scientifically proven effects. Cranberry juice powder contains about 0,2% of soluble PACs and due to this low amount it is assumed that there are also other nutrients that support the health beneficial effects. Cranberries are also an excellent source of antioxidants and other phytonutrients that help protect against the ravages of free radicals.
The combination with Sunfiber increases these antibacterial effects of the cranberry juice powder. The well tolerated bean fiber from the Indian Guar Bean works against antiadhesion and antiinvasion because it strengthens the good gut bacteria which work like a barrier against the “bad” gut bacteria at the intestine wall. This unique combination of Sunfiber and cranberry juice powder (1:1) results in a symbiotic effect.
