Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are the fruits of the chia plant Salvia Hispanic. The seeds were already used in the Mayan period as a staple food and remedy. The cultivation takes place in Central and South America, meanwhile also in Southeast Asia and Australia. The seeds, whose name literally means “strong”, are oval and about one to two millimetres in size. They are available in black, black spotted, white and grey. They belong to the oilseeds and to the “pseudo” grains and are thus gluten-free like these. As food, they are actually strong, because in the small seeds contain valuable nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, protein, fiber and antioxidants.
